Our Approach

We design, build, and install outdoor environments

With over 20 years of experience in landscape design, construction, and residential garden installation, Elliott Bay Landscape Design is a 'one stop shop' for all your outdoor transformation needs. We're also happy to provide landscape design only—should you want to do the legwork yourself or hire a separate construction or installation company. We can also perform the construction/installation if you've already got a design.
Design

Whether you’re looking to redesign a few garden beds or to do a full property makeover, our design process is tailored to align with your needs and is fully collaborative.

The first meeting is set aside to get acquainted, for you to share what you’re hoping to achieve, and for us to make preliminary notes about the space. Are you hoping to create more privacy? Do you want a vibrant place for your kids to play? Can you envision growing food and inviting more pollinators into your garden?

Once the design scope is set, a base map is drawn including 2-3 layout sketches that identify activity zones and focal points. This gives you a chance to review the drawings and let us know which design layout is best suited for you.

Our final design phase incorporates your feedback into a final drawing, a list of plants, and material suggestions for any built components.

Each project starts with a detailed estimate for the work. Once approved, your project will be added to our construction schedule.

Construction & Installation

We pride ourselves on our ability to provide all of the services required for your entire project. With the exception of poured concrete and line voltage electrical work, Elliott Bay Landscape Design can bring your design to life with exceptional construction skills and the personal attention and accountability necessary to ensure quality work.

On day one we begin with a pre-construction meeting. During this meeting we will discuss how we operate, review the scope of work to ensure every one is on the same page, and introduce you to the assigned crew lead for your project.

Once underway you can expect regular check-ins from us to make sure all of your questions, needs, and goals are being met and the crew is on track for successful completion.

Collaborative Projects

We also collaborate with other designers by providing construction services to install their design work. If you've already chosen another designer, Elliott Bay Landscape Design can bring the hands-on resources needed for your project to synchronize a smooth design build process.

We've had the pleasure to work with a number of designers from  the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLDWA). Designers who have work represented on our website include Octavia Chambliss, Katie Weber, Lisa Bauer and Emily Benevedes. Martha Shapiro's work is also included.

We believe that a successful garden starts with a well thought out plan and requires the flexibility to massage the plan when needed during construction. For this reason, hiring a design/build firm, or a designer and a contractor who can work closely together is very important to ensure the best possible results.

I am SO happy with the final result! I mean jump up and down happy! I’m just thrilled at how it all looks. It’s an amazing transformation and I’m able to walk around on those walkways so easily and get up and down the stairs so much better. Thank you for being so easy to work with and so clear with all that went into making this such a success. – Laurie
